Foxconn Begins iPhone Production Exclusively for Chinese Market

Foxconn has started producing iPhones tailored made for the Chinese market, the China Daily reported on July 16. The iPhone, to be dubbed A1324, will not include the Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) function but will support GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), and Bluetooth features, according again to China Daily, citing an anonymous source within Foxconn. Further details regarding the launch time of the phone were not yet disclosed.

In the past, Apple had been in talks with China Mobile regarding iPhone launches in China in 2007 but later the company reportedly turned to China Unicom, which sells phones based on WCDMA technology similar to the technology used for iPhone3G and iPhone 3Gs models. There have been hearsays that China Unicom is due to sign an agreement with Apple for selling iPhones in China. According to the China Daily, the negotiations between the two companies are currently underway and are due to be concluded within the next few weeks.
